Last Monday I got my 1 hr glucose tolerance test done which consisted of drinking a bottle of orange sugar, waiting an hour, then getting some blood work done. I did pretty good - no tears even.
I got a call on Wednesday from my doctor's RN telling me that my glucose levels came back high. I might have gestational diabetes so I needed to get a 3 hr glucose screening test where I had to fast to make sure.
That leaves us to today. My appointment was for 8:30am. I didn't get called back until 9:00am though. Dave was out in the hallway on a conference call (one of his last for rentals.com!) and so when I got called, I had to go out and get him. When I opened the door, he was gone! My heart was already thumping because of what I was having to do but, Dave was gone! I looked at the nurse with the biggest eyes and told her I couldn't go back until I found my husband. I didn't leave enough time for her to even answer. I ran back out into the hall, down to the bathrooms, and when I turned back around, Dave was walking in. I was a crazy lady!
We went back to the third room on the right decorated in Spongebob to get my first poke. This one went okay. The nurse, Ruby, was super sweet and talked the whole time to distract me. She was nice and quick. Then she handed me the bottle of fruit punch sugar to drink in under five minutes. When I finished the bottle, she set my timer to go off every hour for the next three hours - that means three more POKES.
Between the first and second blood draw, Dave and I went out in the hall to finish all our thank you cards. I came prepared.
After an hour, we were called to the second room on the right decorated in "Finding Nemo". We didn't get Ruby again but this nurse was okay. Not as talkative but nice and quick. This time took a little longer to get the blood back in my face, but I survived.
Between the second and third blood drawing, they let me go to the last room on the right to lie down. Lying down made me super nauseous so I kept sitting up. I felt like I was going to throw up every where. Ruby came back to check on me - so sweet! Dave told her I might throw up and she said if I do that I would have to do the tests all over again. I have never tried to keep puke down like that ever. I was not going to go through this again.
The third poke, I was back with Ruby with "Spongebob". That one was super rough. I only had one more left though and then I could EAT!
We went out to the waiting room where it was much warmer and I read a magazine. (I had a bag of goodies!)
The last one was the worst mainly because Ruby was out to lunch and the lady was sarcastic and not friendly at all. This time, I was in the first room to the right with a "Cars" theme. This one took the longest to recover from. After I recovered, I finally got to leave!!!
We headed to Mimi's Cafe where I got to EAT!
I will get a call from the nurse sometime this week.
