31 Weeks Doctor Appointment

I had my 31 weeks belly appointment without Dave on Thursday. He flew back to Pennsylvania that morning for his grandpa/father/son/brother camping (cabin) trip. I'm excited he's able to spend boy time with his family, but wish he could've made it with me even though it was a super short appointment. I guess he has made it to every appointment so I should let him slide this time.

It was a quick appointment with Dr. Sawyer. He was a little sleepy because he had delivered 7 babies and performed 3 surgeries within the past 24 hours. I told him it was no excuse :). He checked the heartbeat, felt where my uterus was, and gave me a piece of paper with information about the last ten weeks of pregnancy. I am to make sure the baby moves at least ten times a day. Also, it explained a culture test I will be getting at my next appointment - not something I look forward to. He then talked to me about needles and told me a fun story about how he scared his little boy when giving him a shot. I love how human he is. He doesn't hesitate to tell personal stories or spend extra time with me.

My next appointment will be September 2 (at 34.5 weeks) where I'll get my last ultrasound. Dr. Sawyer said he's going to make sure Vaughn's penis didn't fall off (yeah, doesn't leave the best visual), and to check that he's where he needs to be. And then I'll have an appointment every week until I deliver.

Weight gain to date: 18 pounds
Last 9 weeks - should gain 1 pound a week; most of it going to the baby. He's going to get big FAST!

Hubby Love
Me: "I’ve been nauseous all day."
Dave: "I’ve been right all day."

Dave: "Our baby is going to hear the cutest songs from me. I was thinking of one in the shower today. It was super cute. It was about dingle berries. A mouse named Dingle and friend named Berry. Won’t it be funny if he names his first dog Dingleberry?" Haha!

One night Dave was imitating what he thinks the baby will be doing all the time - he was on his back, wiggling arms and legs on the bed; the cutest site ever - I can't wait for Vaughn to do it!

Dave: "You married this and are going to give birth to another one of this."

Every night, Dave rubs lotion on my belly before I go to bed. Not only does he just rub it, but he also makes a fun face of what he thinks the baby is feeling that night. Most of the time, they're huge smiley faces, but sometimes they're grumpy faces (which probably reflects more of how I'm being that night). When he forgets to rub lotion on my belly, he definitely hears it the next day.

Dave leaned over to my belly and starting talking to Vaughn.
“Hi Vaughn. This is your daddy pops. This is your dirt bike racing instructor. Your best friend, disciplinary, and the furry guy you’ll have to listen to.”

Adriane: "It’s just weird to think there’s a living thing in me."
Dave: "It’s crazy to think you and I made that living thing in you. I can’t even grow a plant."

Dave: "I just want to meet him. I want to shake his hand!"

i'm going to OWN my labor!

Last night, we had our first child birth class at the hospital we're going to be delivering at - Banner Thunderbird. The nurse who taught the class was the cutest old lady ever. She's been teaching since 1955 after she had preterm labor with three babies (at different times) that all died at birth due to malnutrition.

At the first class, we learned about who to call when we think we're going into labor, where the bathrooms are :), information about the 16 couples in the room, the delivery process through a semi-graphic movie, a ton about nutrition (especially about eating protein and Omega-3's) and...that we are the ones delivering our baby, not the doctor. She opened with this, but it didn't really hit me as to what it meant until after we left the class. She told us to own our labor. Then, she explained that we are doing a great thing and are the ones doing the work; the doctors and nurses are just there to help. This really enlightened me making me super excited about child birth, which is a first time I've felt this way since the start of this process.

As I approach 32 weeks, I'm getting more and more excited. I'm trying as hard as I can not to be too anxious or fearful that I can't do it. I know I can do it. I know I'm going to be a great mother. And above all, I know it's going to be hard. I know I'm not going to get much sleep. I know my breasts will probably be sore for the first few weeks of breastfeeding. I know I'm going to make to do lists that never get done. And at first, it may seem like a lot of this is negative, but it's not. It's the most exciting time of my life. I've been waiting 26 years to embark on this journey. I'm truly thankful to have the tools to succeed (and not to mention, the best person on this earth to do it with - Mr. David Robert Thompson).

My toes are gone!

I got in the shower this morning, looked down and just saw belly and the floor. No more toes!

new discovery

The toilet is getting a lot of visits from me but no action...

I will feel like I really have to pee, yet when I make it to the potty, there's either barely a trickle or nothing at all.

Then, I'll return to what I was doing and then I have to pee again.

What is he doing in there?!

the final stretch

As I fully enter my third trimester, it's hard for me to think that I won't always be this way in just two more months. I miss and often ponder what it'll be like when I'm able to...

- get out of bed in under 5 minutes
- sleep without a pillow factory
- lay on my back
- lay on my stomach
- lay down and feel comfortable
- get in the 4Runner easily
- get out of the 4Runner easily
- not be nauseous if I don't eat every few hours
...or be nauseous just because I'm nauseous
- sit down after going to the bathroom and not having to go to the bathroom again
- not have to go through a box of tissues a week because of my swollen membranes
- not yell at Dave just because I feel angry
- not feel angry then happy then sad then angry then maybe sad then...
- have normal back pain
- be outside for more than 2 minutes
- go swimming even if the water is warm
- hear things about me besides of how big I am
- can eat broccli again
- like chocolate again
- do cardio for more than five minutes without getting super winded
- wear make up again
- feel attractive
- am excited that I have a baby

I think I'm excited and wish I was overwhelmed with happy thoughts about having a baby, but it is truly taking a toll on me. Then I feel like a total cry baby because I know of women who have horrible horrible pregnancies or have an unhealthy baby, or have to be bedrested for months on end. I've had an okay pregnancy. I think I like being pregnant but also I'm just exhausted in every way.

Making a baby is exhausting, but guess what, only 10 more weeks to go!

Two things I've decided

It's WAY too hot to be pregnant.

Who ever thought of wearing panty-hose like material around your waste to keep your pants up has never been pregnant in Arizona in the summer.
